On Tuesday, December 12, 2017, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Atlanta Public Schools Police Department (APSPD) to investigate an officer-involved shooting.

Preliminary information provided by APSPD indicates that at approximately 9:15 AM, an armed man approached the Forrest Hill Academy located at 2930 Forrest Hills Drive, Atlanta, Fulton County, GA.

Around 9:15 a.m., an armed man approached the Forest Hill Academy on Forest Hills Drive. The armed man left the school property and started to walk down Forrest Hills Drive towards Cleveland Avenue.

Two APSPD officers approached the man who was still holding a weapon.  One of the officers fired one round at the subject.  The subject was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is in stable condition.

The armed man did not shoot at the officers or return fire and it is unclear if the man tried to engage the officers.

No officers were injured during the incident.  All students and staff are safe and school operations were not disrupted.

It was later determined during the crime scene examination that the subject’s weapon was a BB gun.  It has yet to be determined why the subject was at the school.

The investigation is ongoing and all students are safe.
